MyCOMET Features described in this article will be deployed on all Demo instances by 28 October 2026 and migrated to Production on 12 January 2027.
The Competition Roster (also known as the Catalogue) defines which players and team officials are eligible to represent a team in a specific competition. Each team participating in a competition has its own roster, managed on the Roster tab of the Competition Team in MyCOMET.
Depending on the competition's Catalogue Restriction Level (see Restriction Level below), the roster can also limit which players are available for selection in the match lineups.
Clubs can prepare and submit their roster within the Roster Submission Period defined for the competition. For details, see Roster Workflow.
Access
The Roster tab is available in both the Club View and the Admin View of the Competition Team.
Club View (Club Managers and Lineup Managers):
-
Open the Competitions menu in MyCOMET.
-
Click the competition on the Active tab.
-
Open your team and select the Roster tab.
Admin View (Superusers, Competition Administrators, and appointed Competition Managers):
-
Select Competitions under the Administration menu.
-
Open the competition and go to the Teams tab.
-
Click the team and select the Roster tab.
The roster can also be opened in the legacy COMET UI: on the competition's Clubs tab, click the Open in MyCOMET icon next to the team. The Roster tab is visible to the same users who can view the Competition Team details.
In combination competitions, rosters are maintained either on the parent competition or on its competition elements, depending on the parent's Roster Submission Mode.
Layout
The Roster tab has a similar layout to the team lineups on the match report:
-
Left side - Team Officials, add through a dialogue
-
If players are being added, the Team Officials panel is hidden and replaced with the list of available players, i.e., players registered for the club who are eligible for the competition and are not currently active in the roster (Submitted, Returned or Confirmed). Players whose roster entry was Terminated appear in the list again.
-
-
Right side - Players, split into A and B roster if applicable
Above the players on the roster, a counter shows the number of players relative to the maximum allowed, e.g., 15/22. The maximum is defined by the Max Players in Roster setting in the Roster panel of the competition.
B Roster
Some competitions allow a secondary list of players, commonly used for youth players, injury reserve, or similar purposes. The B roster is enabled with the Use B Roster setting on the Competition Type. If it is enabled:
-
the player roster is split into two lists, A and B
-
a +B button is shown next to each available player for adding them to the B roster
-
each list has its own counter: the A roster is limited by Max Players in Roster and the B roster by Max Players in B Roster, both in the Roster panel of the competition
A player can be in only one of the two lists at a time. Team officials are not added to the B roster.
If Max Players in B Roster is empty, the B roster is unlimited, and its counter shows only the number of players, e.g., 3.
If Use B Roster is disabled on the Competition Type while players are already in the B roster, the B list remains visible on the Roster tab. The existing entries remain unchanged and can still be terminated, but no new players can be added to the B roster.
The B roster label can be localized per tenant, e.g., Injury Reserve List, Youth Player List, or Cat.B, so that it matches the terminology in your competition regulations.
Show All
By default, the roster panels show only persons in Confirmed, Submitted or Returned status, and the counters count only these persons. Switch on Show All to also display persons in other statuses, e.g., Terminated. The switch is not displayed if no persons are in these statuses.
Add Players
-
Find the player in the list of available players on the left side.
-
If shirt numbers are used in the roster, enter the player's shirt number. If positions are used, select the player's Position from the dropdown next to the shirt number.
-
Click the + button next to the player, or +B to add them to the B roster.
The player is moved to the roster on the right side. Depending on the Roster Submission Mode, the player is either Confirmed directly or Submitted for individual approval.
Shirt Numbers
Shirt numbers can be assigned at the competition level. The Use Shirt Numbers in Roster setting on the Competition Type defines how shirt numbers are handled:
-
Final - the shirt number is entered in the roster, is mandatory, and cannot be changed on the match lineup. This is common in professional competitions.
-
Default - the shirt number is entered in the roster and is mandatory, but serves as a default value that can be changed on each match lineup.
-
None - shirt numbers are hidden on the roster and entered only on the match lineup.
A shirt number can be used only once in a team's roster, across the A and B rosters together. This also applies when copying a roster from another competition. Duplicate numbers are checked only if Use Shirt Numbers in Roster is set to Final or Default.
The range of allowed shirt numbers is defined by system parameters. To change them, please submit a support ticket.
Use Shirt Numbers in Roster replaces the former Lock shirt number competition setting. Existing competition types have been configured accordingly.
Positions
Competition organizers can require that each player in the roster has a defined position, e.g., Goalkeeper, Defender, Midfielder, or Forward, by enabling Use Positions in Roster on the Competition Type.
If enabled, a mandatory Position dropdown is shown next to the shirt number when adding a player to the A or B roster. The dropdown lists only the positions of the competition's discipline: GK, DF, MF and FW for football and futsal, and additionally PT and WF for beach soccer. It is prefilled with the position from the player's profile, where available. The competition position is then displayed on the Roster tab and on the print version of the roster. Positions are not used for team officials.
If Position is chosen, it is saved on the Competition Roster (taken by default from Person, but can be updated). If Position is missing, the club can simply update it there, directly in Roster.
If Use Positions in Roster is disabled, no position is displayed on the Roster tab.
The roster position is used only on the roster. It is not related to the player's position in the match lineup or tactical formation.
Dispensations
Standard competition rules specify that players are eligible to play in their own age category, so by default only players eligible for the competition's age category and gender are listed as available. Many competitions, however, allow dispensations under certain criteria, e.g., allowing an advanced 15-year-old to join a senior team.
If Allow Dispensations is enabled on the competition, the Allow Dispensations switch is displayed next to the Add to Roster button for all users who can add players to the roster, i.e., Competition Administrators, Competition Managers and clubs. The switch is off by default. When switched on, the list of available players is extended to include players registered with the club who would otherwise not qualify under the competition's age-category rules. Players added to the roster this way are also available in the match lineups.
Move Between A and B Rosters
Each player can have only one active entry (Submitted, Returned or Confirmed) in the roster, either in the A or in the B roster. To move a player to the other roster:
-
Terminate the player's active entry. The player reappears in the list of available players.
-
Add the player to the other roster with + or +B.
The new entry is checked in the same way as any new entry, e.g., against the maximum number of players and shirt numbers. In the Individual Approval modes, it is Submitted again and requires approval.
The system blocks any status change that would give a player a second active entry, e.g., reverting a Terminated entry to Confirmed while the player already has another active entry. A validation message is displayed, and batch actions skip or block the affected players.
Copy from Other Competition
Clubs commonly enter the same squad into several competitions, such as the league and the cup, or register a similar squad season after season. To save time, the roster can be copied from another competition, similar to copying lineups from the previous match.
-
Click the Copy button (tooltip: Copy players from previous competition). A dialog lists the competitions from which the roster can be copied, i.e., competitions that:
-
have the same age category as the current competition
-
were entered by the same club, one of its teams or, for a team, its parent club or the parent club's other teams
-
have at least one person in Submitted, Confirmed, or Returned status in the roster
-
-
Competitions from all seasons are listed, starting with the most recent season. For each competition, the dialog shows:
-
Competition name, season, and age category
-
Team name
-
Roster status
-
Number of players and officials
-
-
Use the search field to find a competition.
-
Select a competition. Its players are prefilled in the roster, including the distinction between the A and B roster, where applicable. Shirt numbers are copied only if Use Shirt Numbers in Roster is set to Final or Default for the current competition, and positions only if Use Positions in Roster is enabled.
-
Review the prefilled persons, then add them to the roster and submit it.
Only players are copied. Team officials are not copied; they must be added to the Team Officials panel. Only players with an active registration (Confirmed or Termination Requested) are copied. If the destination competition does not use the B roster, players from the source B roster are skipped, and a message is displayed.
Copy is available in both the Club View and the Admin View, so Competition Administrators and Managers can also use it.
Add Team Officials
The Team Officials panel shows the roles configured for the competition in Competition Roles | Team Official Roles:
-
Static roles are always listed in the panel. Click the Add link next to the role to assign a person.
-
Dynamic roles are added via the Add dropdown above the panel.
Only persons registered for the club under the registration types accepted for the role can be selected, and the same person cannot be added twice. Once added, the team official is listed with the role from the Competition Role configuration, not with their own registration type; e.g., a person registered as Assistant Coach added to the Head Coach role is listed as Head Coach.
If no Team Official roles are configured, no roles are displayed in the panel.
Team officials are added in the same way as in the match. See Team Officials.
Person Details
Each player and team official is presented with their photo and the same personal descriptors as in the match lineups, on both the available list and the roster:
-
COMET ID and age
-
Nationality flag - shown or hidden according to the Show Nationality system parameter, e.g., hidden for non-foreign players. To change this system parameter, please submit a support ticket.
-
Highlighted licenses - licenses set to be highlighted in the Admin app, with details displayed on hover
-
Registration type
-
Player descriptors
Click on any person in the roster to open a detailed panel on the right side of the screen. This panel displays the person's information, including their registration type, active competitions, and status history.
When the Individual Approval Workflow is enabled, both Administrators and Clubs will have the option to update the person's status in the roster.
Registration Type
The registration type is displayed to the right of the flag and highlighted licenses. Hover over it to see:
-
Registration status
-
Validity dates (from - to)
-
Level (if applicable)
-
Age category (if applicable)
The same data is shown in the person dialog.
If a person's registration is no longer active, i.e., not Confirmed or Termination Requested (e.g., it was terminated or expired after the person was added), the registration type is marked red in the roster. This allows clubs and administrators to spot persons who may no longer be eligible. This marking applies only to persons already in the roster, since only persons with confirmed registrations appear in the list of available players.
Auto-Termination
Associations can choose to automatically terminate roster entries when a person's club registration is terminated. If the tenant-level system parameter Competition Registration Automation is set to Auto-Termination:
-
all Confirmed roster entries of the person in active competitions are moved to Terminated when the underlying club registration is terminated
-
this applies to registrations terminated manually and automatically (on expiration), and to both players and team officials
-
the transition note, Automatic termination - underlying registration terminated, is added to the entry
This is useful when the roster slot needs to be freed up for a new player or team official.
To help administrators keep track of rosters requiring attention, a circle indicator now highlights teams with submitted players or officials, or with confirmed roster entries whose underlying registration is no longer active. A new For Review switch filters the list of teams down to those that require action.
To turn on this automation, please submit a support ticket.
Active Competitions
The person dialog shows the number of active competitions in which the person is registered in the roster with one of the following statuses: Returned, Submitted, or Confirmed.
Click the number to open a list of these competitions, showing for each:
-
Competition
-
Role, including the A/B roster indicator
-
Status
This helps clubs and administrators avoid conflicts, e.g., when the same player is registered in rosters of several teams or competitions.
Batch Actions
To change the status of several persons at once, select them using the checkboxes on the right side of their entries and open the Options menu:
-
Confirm - confirms all selected Submitted persons. Available only to Competition Administrators and Managers, in the Individual Approval modes.
-
Terminate - terminates all selected Confirmed persons, e.g., to remove them from the roster.
-
Print ID cards - prints ID cards for the selected persons. See Print ID Cards below.
The transition comment you enter is applied to all selected persons, and a summary dialog shows how many persons were confirmed or terminated. Batch actions are not available if the selection includes both Submitted and Confirmed persons.
Print
Competition Roster PDF
Click Print in the Info panel on the Application tab of the Competition Team to generate the standardized Competition Roster PDF. The PDF is not available on the Roster tab. It follows the same design as the Start List and Match Report PDF and includes:
-
Header - team logo and name (for teams, with the club name below), age category and home stadium
-
Players - shirt number, full name, configured player descriptors (the same as on the match reports), nationality, level, position (the roster position, otherwise the position from the player's profile) and status
-
B Roster - the same columns as Players, if the B roster is used, with the B roster label of your association
-
Staff - role, full name, configured team official descriptors, nationality and status
-
The time of the last submission and the last confirmation of the roster
-
A QR code and link to the competition in the COMET LIVE Apps, if your association has implemented them
Associations that use a custom competition roster report can keep using it. This is defined by the Custom Competition Reports system parameter. To change this system parameter, please submit a support ticket.
Print ID Cards
Competition Administrators and appointed Competition Managers can print ID cards (accreditations) for selected players and team officials directly from the roster. Clubs cannot print ID cards from the roster.
-
Select the persons using the checkboxes on the right side of their entries.
-
Open the Options menu of the Players or Team Officials list and select Print ID cards.
The ID card for a single person can also be printed from the person dialog by selecting Print ID next to the status.
ID cards are printed only for persons whose roster entry and registration are both Confirmed. If the selection also includes other persons, only the confirmed ones are printed. The option is available only if an ID card template has been configured for the competition or its competition type. See ID Card Administration.
Restriction Level
The Catalogue Restriction Level in the Lineups settings of the competition defines how strictly the roster limits player selection on matchday. It is set separately for players and team officials:
-
Ignore - the roster is informational only; all registered players are available.
-
Optional - if at least one player is listed in the roster, only roster players are available; otherwise, all registered players are available.
-
Mandatory - only players listed in the roster are available for selection.
For team officials, the roster role is matched to the match role through the match role's Catalogues list of values. For details, see Team Officials on Matchday.
The roster is also relevant for disciplinary sanctions: if the Roster is Mandatory, a player must be on the roster for a suspension to be served by not being added to the lineup. For details, see the Disciplinary Settings.
Legacy COMET
Rosters are managed only in MyCOMET and cannot be edited in the legacy COMET UI. The Clubs tab of the competition in COMET shows a plain list of teams, each with a direct Open in MyCOMET link to its Competition Team, where the roster is managed.
